Template Pack 1: Books and Manuals for Unix 1998-03-16

The Adobe FrameMaker Template Series is a collection of over 150 professionally designed templates. Using the templates, you can create technical manuals, cookbooks, Web sites, and many other types of publications entirely in FrameMaker. We've also thrown in over 30 custom table formats; multi-purpose borders; and special features, such as guide lines, pre-built fractions, customizable variables, and tables of contents. This pack includes nine templates:  BkStyle1: This template family is designed to keep page count down.  BkStyle2: This family features prominent headings and generous amounts of white space without increasing page count.  BkStyle3: This template family creates a book with its chapters, appendices, illustrations, etc., numbered independently. This feature makes it easy for material to be inserted later without disrupting the numbering scheme throughout the entire book.  BkStyle4: This complex template family is ideal for laser-printed software manuals, training guides, tutorials, and in-house instructional material. It features a wealth of formats, accent graphics, and more that help the student progress quickly and stay focused on the material.  BkStyle5: This family is the same as BkStyle2, but this version shows how to create running thumb tabs on recto pages. You can easily copy the technique to other templates after you see how it's done here.  BkStyle6: This template is intended for the small heavily illustrated manuals that accompany TVs, VCRs, and similar consumer hardware. The template exports well to HTML because of the way text and graphics are enclosed. It's a great way to transfer printed, graphical step-by-step guides to the Web.  BkStyle7: Did you like the pre-5.5 FrameMaker documentation? This template family brings that look back to life in a special, easier-to-use version.  BkStyle8: This template family served as the basis for the Adobe FrameMaker Template Series documentation.  BkIntl: This simple template is meant for instruction sheets or step-by-step guides where the contents must be in three languages.

Acrobat Forms Author Plug-in 3.5 Update for Macintosh 1998-01-26

The Acrobat Forms Author Plug-in 3.5 Update enables Acrobat Exchange 3.01 users to create forms with the following new features:
-- JavaScript can be used for performing actions such as client-side field validation and calculations; it also allows greater format control and improved form intelligence.
-- Export Forms allows users to save a form and its data to a local hard drive. This feature is only available in Acrobat 3.0 and Acrobat Exchange VPP.
-- Dynamic Page Templates allow the creator to specify a first, last, and any number of middle pages to support form applications such as database publishing and high-end printing of bills and other forms.
-- Authoring Enhancements, such as the new layout grid, make it easier to align form fields. Other enhancements include support for multiple field selection and editing of field properties, which reduce creation and editing time.
-- Embedded PDF Graphics Support allows the user to embed PDF graphics within forms and then submit those graphics to a Web server.
-- Send Acrobat Forms data to a database. Acrobat Forms work with Web servers via standard Web server CGI scripts. In fact, a PDF form can replace HTML forms with little or no change to existing scripts. If your Web server software can connect to your corporate database, you should be able to write CGI scripts that take form data and populate your database and vice versa.
-- The Acrobat FDF Toolkit, which allows you to easily create and parse the Acrobat Forms Data Format (FDF), is available through Adobe Developer Relations on our Web site.
